20 pages collapsed into 6 that each answer a business goal and move a metric
introduction
A dance school with a brochure for a homepage that informed families but never guided them to enroll.
I collapsed a fragmented 20-page site into six pages on one design system, focusing on the surfaces that most drive enrollment, retail revenue, and parent confidence. Without direct user access, I grounded every decision in competitive analysis and the studio's own materials, designing for testable hypotheses, not hunches.
the problem
Parents trust dbstudios. The website made them work to find out why they should.
Before I designed anything, I audited the current db studios website end to end. Four structural failures kept surfacing, and each one was costing the business money or staff time.
01 · Navigation
Split one audience into two brains
Nav labels read like three different businesses.
02 · Hero
The hero did no work
A brand slogan where a next step should be.
03 · Hierarchy
"About" was the default destination
Mission statement above anything actionable.
Conversion · The Costliest Failure
The money page was buried three clicks deep
The only real conversion surface lived three clicks down, with no "Contact" in the nav.

That raised one question:
How might we redesign the site to make enrollment the default action while keeping the warmth that brings families back?
business goals
Every page had to answer a business goal.
I translated the brand discovery into four concrete goals, each tied to a business outcome rather than a design deliverable. That way I could tell at the end whether the design brought impact.
navigation redesign
Enrollment had to be findable before it could be designed.
The old nav split classes, programs, and registration into separate destinations. I collapsed them into one parent-centric hierarchy with one entry point per job, and made enrollment the spine. Every page either leads toward a class or answers what's stopping a parent from enrolling.
wireframes
Ideating the path a parent actually takes.
Before styling anything, I wireframed the core pages to test one thing: could a parent move from curious to checked out without ever guessing where to click?

Brand style guide
The visual language had one job: earn trust at first glance.
Where most dance studio sites lean on amateur-looking pastels, I built a restrained, grown-up system that signals competence. The students might be kids, but the audience of this site are adults.
- Color: five-color palette anchored in deep teal (#12545F)
- Type: one typeface (Inter), four weights.
- Buttons: three tiers, with hover and pressed states.
- Badges: one system for age, level, and availability.

Designing a business means designing its operations.
Saving a parent one click changed what the front desk does all day. Those second-order effects are what I want to get better at.
The homepage didn't need to pick a parent. It needed to sequence.
Two parents, opposite needs. Every homepage I sketched chose one and alienated the other. The fix: value prop first, then structure, then community, so the hero reads to both.
Research the audience before you architect for them.
I built the IA from competitive analysis and brand materials. Next time the audience filters come from parent interviews, not my best guess.

The visual language had one job: earn trust at first glance.
Where most dance studio sites lean on amateur-looking pastels, I built a restrained, grown-up system that signals competence. The students might be kids, but the audience of this site are adults.

Designing a business means designing its operations.
Saving a parent one click changed what the front desk does all day. Those second-order effects are what I want to get better at.
The homepage didn't need to pick a parent. It needed to sequence.
Two parents, opposite needs. Every homepage I sketched chose one and alienated the other. The fix: value prop first, then structure, then community, so the hero reads to both.
Research the audience before you architect for them.
I built the IA from competitive analysis and brand materials. Next time the audience filters come from parent interviews, not my best guess.

introduction
A dance school with a brochure for a homepage that informed families but never guided them to enroll.
I collapsed a fragmented 20-page site into six pages on one design system, focusing on the surfaces that most drive enrollment, retail revenue, and parent confidence. Without direct user access, I grounded every decision in competitive analysis and the studio's own materials, designing for testable hypotheses, not hunches.

Parents trust dbstudios. The website made them work to find out why they should.
Before I designed anything, I audited the current db studios website end to end. Four structural failures kept surfacing, and each one was costing the business money or staff time.
01 · Navigation
Split one audience into two brains
Nav labels read like three different businesses.
02 · Hero
The hero did no work
A brand slogan where a next step should be.
03 · Hierarchy
"About" was the default destination
Mission statement above anything actionable.
Conversion · The Costliest Failure
The money page was buried three clicks deep
The only real conversion surface lived three clicks down, with no "Contact" in the nav.

That raised one question:
How might we redesign the site to make enrollment the default action while keeping the warmth that brings families back?

Every page had to answer a business goal.
I translated the brand discovery into four concrete goals, each tied to a business outcome rather than a design deliverable. That way I could tell at the end whether the design brought impact.
navigation redesign
Enrollment had to be findable before it could be designed.
The old nav split classes, programs, and registration into separate destinations. I collapsed them into one parent-centric hierarchy with one entry point per job, and made enrollment the spine. Every page either leads toward a class or answers what's stopping a parent from enrolling.

Ideating the path a parent actually takes.
Before styling anything, I wireframed the core pages to test one thing: could a parent move from curious to checked out without ever guessing where to click?

Brand style guide
The visual language had one job: earn trust at first glance.
Where most dance studio sites lean on amateur-looking pastels, I built a restrained, grown-up system that signals competence. The students might be kids, but the audience of this site are adults.
- Color: five-color palette anchored in deep teal (#12545F)

Designing a business means designing its operations.
Saving a parent one click changed what the front desk does all day. Those second-order effects are what I want to get better at.
The homepage didn't need to pick a parent. It needed to sequence.
Two parents, opposite needs. Every homepage I sketched chose one and alienated the other. The fix: value prop first, then structure, then community, so the hero reads to both.
Research the audience before you architect for them.
I built the IA from competitive analysis and brand materials. Next time the audience filters come from parent interviews, not my best guess.
